GoPro HERO10 Black Review

The GoPro HERO10 Black is a waterproof, action camera with a front LCD and a touch-capable rear screen that can shoot in multiple video resolutions up to 5.3K 60 Ultra HD video. It can take photos up to 23MP, and it is great for 1080p live streaming. It has fantastic image stabilization, in fact, the best that I have seen. I think its onboard microphone makes better-sounding audio on its videos than my iPhone 14 Pro Max does too.
I have used it to shoot videos of some of our adventures in our Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Extreme (JLUR). I mounted it on a RAM ball mount on the dash where it got a lot of vibration. I can’t believe how well the videos came out. This playlist on our HodgeHub YouTube channel has several examples. However, for the Eureka Springs Hollow Trail video and the Warloop Road videos, I was using the optional GoPro Max Lens Mod which has a feature that can keep the horizon steady. Even without this mod, the camera does a great job of smoothing out what would be a very rough video. One thing to note is that one time I had the camera in the sun on the dash, and it shut itself down after about 30 or 40 minutes. It worked fine when I cooled it back off though.
If you want an incredible action camera, you’ll have to live with its poor thermal management and shortish battery life. Having extra batteries for longer recordings is a must.
It also has a neat mode where you can set it up and it can take timelapse photos which can be strung together to produce one of those timelapse videos, a very neat feature.
The camera is VERY easy to use, and it has the nice quality of making your videos look more professional than you may be, always a great feature.
Pros:
- The BEST image stabilization that I have seen
- Compact
- A great ecosystem of mounts and accessories
Cons:
- Expensive
- Can get VERY hot and shut itself down
- Battery life could be better
