Logitech for Creators Blue Yeti USB Microphone Review

I bought this microphone to use on our Youtube channel, HodgeHub, and it has been GREAT! It delivers crisp, clear sound at a fraction of the price of professional microphones. The customizable gain and sensitivity controls, as well as the different modes, and multiple condensers on it make it very versatile.

The Yeti’s proprietary tri-capsule technology gives you 4 distinct pattern modes to choose from:

  • CARDIOID MODE – This mode records sound sources that are directly in front of the microphone.
  • STEREO MODE – Uses both the left and right channels to capture a more realistic sound range.
  • OMNIDIRECTIONAL MODE – Picks up sound equally from all around the mic (best for live recordings around a table, etc.)
  • BIDIRECTIONAL – Records from both the front and rear of the microphone—good for recording a duet or a two-person interview.

I use it on my iMac with its USB connection, and I use it with my iPhone with a USB to lightning cable adapter, like this one. Using it with my iPhone greatly improves the sound of videos taken with it.

With its sturdy metal construction, it looks professional and harkens back to the old days of radio. It has the look of an old microphone that you might find in a professional recording studio.

One thing to note is that you need a headset with a standard aux cable (⅛” stereo male plug) to plug into the mic setup. You’ll need that to hear anything if you’re using it with a console. The port for that is on the bottom of the microphone.

Pros:

  • Great sound quality
  • Price
  • Firm base
  • Nice stand
  • Easy angle adjustment
  • Looks professional

Cons:

  • Bulky
  • A bit heavy
  • Need headphones with a standard aux cable (⅛” stereo male plug) to plug into the mic setup to be able to hear anything if you’re using it with a console.
